The Fabric has Arrived

The Rookery is now carrying fabric. We have received a shipment from Westminster Fibers which includes Kaffe Fassett, Brandon Mabley, Joel Dewberry, Amy Butler, Martha Negley, Philip Jacoby and Ty Pennington. They are absolutely beautiful.

We also received an order of notions including interfacing, rotary cutters, rulers, mats, scissors, pins, etc. We also have zippers and thread.

Fall class schedule

JoJo Land

Another new yarn in the store is JoJo land. This comes in 3 weights - lace weight, dk and worsted. These are slowly striping yarns in great color combos. There is also a cashmere and silk/cashmere blend. Start thinking about those gifts that need to be made.

Spud & Chloe

We have begun the annual migration on fall yarn into the store. Spud & Chloe is one of the first to arrive. These are yarns supplied by Blue Sky Alpacas. The colors are great, it comes in 3 weights and they are machine washable. We also have patterns for your browsing to match the yarn.

Along with Spud & Chloe we have also increased our Blue Sky collection. This yarn is so soft.

New Plymouth Yarn

Square Needles

We now carry square needles from Kollage. I've tried both the straights and double points and love them. I'm able to maintain my gage but my grip seams to loosen a little. They are metal so those of you that are rough on your smaller wooden needles might want to give these a try.

Chemo Caps

On Monday nights from June 21 until July 19 we will be knitting and crocheting chemo caps for the American Cancer Society. Any caps made can be donated to the local Relay for Life event that happens July 24. They will sell or auction them for the cause.

I'll provide the patterns and the space you provide the hooks, needles and yarn. Come in from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Monday night is an Entrelac Scarf class. This is an intermediate class with a beautiful outcome. A compilation of triangles and squares that form a great basket weave pattern. Using a self striping yarn you are sure to get many compliments when this project is complete. We have lots of new yarn to make your project successful. Class runs from 6 – 8 p.m.

Knitting with Noro - Blythe knit along is Saturday night from 7 – 9 p.m.

Tuesday, March 24 from 6 - 8 p.m. - Finishing Techniques
We will review ways to sew sweater pieces together, pick up stitches, make button holes, block your projects and any other finishing questions you may have. Feel free to bring a work in progress.

Saturday, March 28 from 10 - noon - Beginner Knitting
We will learn to cast on and knit a basic cotton wash cloth.
Class: $10
Kit: $10

Monday, March 30 from 6 - 8 p.m. - The Moebius Scarf
Learn how to cast on and knit the magical moebius scarf by Cat Bordhi. Once you master the simple cast on and knit your first round, this scarf is a pleasure to work with your favorite luxury yarn. This class requires a book and needle purchase as well as your yarn.

We have new yarn from Louet that is absolutely fabulous. The Euroflax linen comes in 3 weights - fingering, worsted and chunky. This is great yarn for cable or lace work. We also got Merlin which is a merino/linen blend at a worsted weight. This yarn is machine washable and dryable and the color selection is good. The felting yarn has rich colors and good yardage at a chunky weight. Come in and try some.

We received our shipment of Cascade Eco yarn this past week. This is a great deal - 400 plus yards of wool in a bulky weight for $15.95 in natural colors. Way cool!!

We also got in Magnum which is a super bulky roving type yarn that knits on 17 or 19 size needles. Several free downloads on the Cascade site for this one.

Just wanted to give everyone a class schedule update now that we are heading into the final stretch. Below are the classes remaining and their scheduled times. Plenty of choices for quick holiday presents.

Felted Bag – we have a really cool Debbie Bliss pattern picked out for this project. Class starts Monday, November 17 at 6 pm. Class will require 6 skeins of Ella Rae.
Crocheted scarf – this is a fun “plaid” scarf for a beginner plus crocheter. Class starts Tuesday, November 18 at 6 p.m. Class will require 3 skeins of Ella Rae.
Seed Stitch sample – learn the seed stitch on a cotton dish cloth. Class is Saturday, November 22 at 10 a.m.
Louisa Harding sampler pouch – we just got in tons of Louisa Harding yarn; this class uses 5 types and makes a cute pouch – try it. Class starts Monday December 1.

Stitch is a new magazine from Interweave with innovative sewing techniques. "It itches" is a pretty funny knitting comic book. The projects in Boutique Knits are really intriguing and different - great gift ideas.

These past few weeks have been hectic. Preparing art for the Holiday Market left me pretty busy. We are back on track now.

The postman delivered 7 boxes of yarn on Saturday so stay tuned for photos. This included the entire Louisa Harding line, new Noro and chunky Debbie Bliss Donegal Tweed.

Classes are moving right along. Saturday we have a beginner kids knitting (adults can come too, if you dare!). The Sock class starts Wednesday. We've rescheduled the crocheted scarf class to the 18th. We also rescheduled the Louisa pouch class since the yarn just got here to December 1.

It's winter so come in and get started on a project.

Mirasol Project

The Rookery has received yarn in support of the Mirasol Project. The yarn is spectacular and the pattern books are beautiful. There is a silk/wool combo, Bamboo/baby alpaca, hand dyed merino and a merino/alpaca/silk. The colors are earthy and practical.

The Mirasol Project is a fair trade endeavor to help support a boarding school for the children of the shepherds of the alpaca in Peru. It is actually a really cool story. You can read more about the Mirasol Project on there web site www.mirasolperu.com.

Lastly, check out the yarn from Rabbit Ridge Designs. This is a hand dyed yarn from a farm in Alaska. Lots of fun choices.

2 boxes of yarn came this week from Westminster. They included yarns from Rowan, Rowan Classic and Nashua as well as a few pattern books. There is quite the variety in weights, colors and fibers. We have wool cotton, wool silks and 100% wool from DK to super bulky. You'll be sure to find something for your next project.

The newest magazines have arrived. Lots of eye candy and great ideas. The special issue of FELT is going fast so hurry in so you don't miss out.

Earlier this summer we got Knitting with Gigi books - the follow on book is in and includes purling. Awesome projects in the other 2 books.

We have 62 colors of Ella Rae Classic, 10 colors of the handpaint and 20+ colors of the heathers on the way. These yarns are the equivalent to Cascade 220 but in a pull skein and they felt beautifully. Come in to see the wonderful choices.

The new displays have finally arrived and I finished putting together 2 out of 3 of the new islands. There is tons of new yarn in the bins. The place is quite colorful if I do say so myself.

New Baby Yarn

We have 5 great colors of Sirdar's Snuggly Baby Bamboo yarn. It's a bamboo and wool mix so it's machine washable and extremely soft. We also have 3 pattern books to accompany the yarn. The patterns are great and range from age 0 to 7 years so lots of use.

We are getting stocked for your fall projects or final end of summer fling. Whatever your project we have the yarn.

Above is the last of the cottons we will be getting for a while. It's called Cotton Twist from Berroco. Its a gorgeous cotton rayon mix.

Below is another new to the store Berroco yarn called Comfort. Its a poly/acrylic mix but you would never guess - it's sooo soft. It's great for home dec or baby projects and comes in a worsted and DK weight.

Some of you are already familiar with Berroco's Plush - we got in additional colors for your current baby project.

Lastly we received a big order of Blue Sky Alpaca. We have new colors of the Dyed Cotton, the Melange and the Sport Weight Alpaca. Start thinking of a fall project for these beauties.

The colors are spectacular. We received 16 new colors of NORO sock yarn - both Silk Garden and Kureyon. Sock knitting has never been so colorful. Each skein knits about 3 socks so you get alot. Come try it...

With all the new yarn that arrived last week it was hard to find a place for everything. We ordered new displays for the large quantity of wool but we were able to tuck the rest in to the existing store space.

To carry us through the rest of the summer (ha-ha), we received Soya Cotton by Sublime and Silkience by Ella Rae. These both feel sooo soft and the colors are fun. The pattern books for these yarns arrived too.

Calibri is a fun scarf/shawl yarn. It makes its own lacey design as you knit.

Debbie Bliss will be a new yarn manufacturer for the store and we have started getting her yarn. Alpaca Silk melts in your hands. Cashmerino Astrakhan is a merino, cashmere blend with a little texture. This yarn is soon to be phased out but we were lucky to get some fun colors. The yarn books for this yarn are also trickling in so come pick a project for the fall.
